As you can see, we are concerned about both the potential and known dangers associated with receiving messages from the spirit world. Scribing unbiblical messages one allegedly receives from spiritual “contacts” and “Jesus” into a spiritual journal is unwise and can be very dangerous. Likewise, initiating or receiving uninitiated contact from unseen forces is very dangerous (1 Tim. 4:1). Any spiritistic practices and spiritual journaling via spirit contact and impressions should always be avoided at all costs. The Bible warns about this in Lev. 19:31; 20:6; Deut. 18:11; Is. 8:19; 19:3; Acts 8:7; 19:12; Rev. 16:14-14 and many other places.

We encourage people to read the Bible and record their insights in accordance with Scripture and sound biblical interpretation. We recommend using a literal, historical, and grammatically sound interpretation. Not spiritualizing texts, adding and subtracting from Scripture, or twisting Scripture unto the readers’ own destruction (2 Pet. 3:16). Here is an excellent introductory book on biblical interpretation, with a modern-day example of what not to do.
